One Laptop Per Child Project

OLPC project

One laptop Per child Project  is created by faculty members of MIT Lab and leaded by Nicholas Negroponte . It is a Non-Profit Organization working on a students machine project which is estimated to have a street price of $ 100 , Hence the name $ 100 laptop project.(  No , we can’t say street price since it is not sold on streets or shops . It is supplied directly to the Governments who are part of this project and  supposed to be  directly given to children’s free of cost). It is targeting at un developed countries were the children could not afford the cost of a computer or computer education.

The goal of the foundation is to provide children around the world with new opportunities to explore, experiment, and express themselves. To that end, OLPC is designing a laptop, educational software, manufacturing base, and distribution system to provide children outside of the first-world with otherwise unavailable technological learning opportunities

What ever may be the basic aim of the project , the fact that a laptop can be produced at a cost of $ 100  is a real eye opener to the customer and the businessman .  OLPC $ 100 laptop mimics a dynabook in its appearance and is really suitable for a long time use on  backup power and  reasonably rugged.

At first it was announced that the laptops will be only made available to the real targeted customers , i.e. the students of the third worlds countries , then the OLPC announced a new plan to sell it at $ 200 for general public to fund the project. Under the give one get one project. I.e. when you purchase a $100 laptop at $200 then one student is supposed to  get a laptop for free.

Business is  attracted where there is demand.  The enthusiasm for the laptop project is not that the third world countries poor children get their hands on the laptop , but the fact that it is a real market.  The basic need of third world countries is still proper food , nutrition and health care .

There is no tracking mechanism after these laptops are handed over to the greedy governments of these nations and it is purely up to the government what they are going to do with the laptop.

These factor apart the OLPC project is a nice technical oriented project and the product was so stable and nice.
